Want to quit smoking? Well be patient and follow these steps!

We all are aware about the health risks of smoking, so if you’ve decided to kick this habit, then congratulations! But your first days with smoking can seem like impossible but remember! Nothing is impossible.

Consumption of tobacco increases the risk of many serious health issues like heart disease, stroke, several types of cancer, chronic obstructive and many more. Despite of all these issues being acknowledged by everyone, giving up tobacco is very challenging.

According to World Health Organization, the prevalence of smoking tobacco in India has dropped down from 19.4% in 2000, to 11.5% in 2005 whereas this statics are expected to decrease more to 9.8% by 2020 and 8.5% by 2025.

There are common symptoms that smokers generally face like Cigarette cravings, Irritability, frustration, or anger, Anxiety or nervousness, Difficulty concentrating, Restlessness, Increased appetite, Headaches, Insomnia, Tremors, Increased coughing, Fatigue, Constipation or upset stomach, Depression and Decreased heart rate.

 There are certain things that need to stop doing when you quit smoking:

 Don’t be impatient

It happens when we’re letting go of a habit that we have carried for many years. It will take some time to replace this bad habit and inculcate healthier habits in our daily routine. You need to be patient, try to increase the gap between you and the last cigarette you smoked. This will automatically decrease the process of smoking. This process is just time taking.

Don’t worry about the future

 Most of the people feel panicked in their smoke- free time about their future. Do not indulge yourself in the process of thinking about future. Live in present, as it will help you to control over the quit process. So, next time when you think about your future, put yourself in the right moment and live for the present moment.

Don’t consume Alcohol

Consumption of alcohol and cigarette goes side by side, but don’t stress out on the situation. With the passage of time, you will be able to drink without craving of smoking. In cases when you find yourself engaging into alcohol events then either avoid going to such gathering or try to make yourself strong not to smoke and keep continuing the process of smoking cessation.

 Handle the situation

Stress and anger are the two most common smoking triggers. This can make you feel exhausted and stressed. Relax and calm down to the point of exhaustion, keep yourself indulge in the activities you enjoy the most.  You can invest your time in reading books, take a hot shower or work upon your hobbies. This will help you to meet up your daily challenges.

Don’t think one cigarette cannot stop you to quit smoking

When it comes to quit smoking, there is no such thing as one cigarette. If you can have one cigarette then later you will continue it with more cigarettes and by doing so, you will not be able to quit smoking. If unhealthy thoughts of smoking come up, and you can’t shake them, it’s time to renew your resolve.

We always quit smoking for a reason; keep your memory green by reviewing the reasons for quitting. This process will make it easy for you to quit smoking. In the initial phases, it will be hard for you to continue the things but later you will get habitual of doing so.
